2010  Mullineux Family Wines Schist Syrah – 5 Stars

Second, more ‘masculine’ sibling of 2010 terroir twins is bolder, richer, but retains beguiling floral fragrance, with a touch more muscle on the supple body. Hints of fruitcake & tobacco, same silky texture.

2010  Mullineux Family Wines Granite Syrah – 4.5 Stars

This & Schist Syrah a seminal study in terroir. Near identical viticulture & winemaking show soil’s effect to great advantage. 2010 granite produces ethereal Rhône-like violets & pepper spices, couched in supple ‘feminine’ form.

2011  Mullineux Family Wines White – 4.5 Stars, nominated for 5 stars

Captivatingly subtle blend of very special blocks of Swartland chenin, clairette & viognier, expertly handcrafted into a Cape benchmark. 2011 follows impeccable class of 2010 () & previous; nuanced & balanced with a gracious peacock’s tail finish.

2010  Mullineux Family Wines Syrah – 5 Stars, Red Wine of the Year

Restraint & moderation triumph over excess in impressive 2010, our Red Wine of the Year. Understated elegance, faultless composition & balance, mystifying complexity from back-to-basics treatment of special vineyard blocks. An icon in the making.

2011  Mullineux Family Wines Straw Wine – 5 Stars

Mesmerising tobacco-like aromas, intense spiciness & unctuous honeyed sweetness elevate benchmark vin de paille above rivals in 2011. Air-dried chenin, fermented for 6 months in older oak, retains all the variety’s charm.

2012  Mullineux Family Wines Kloof Street Chenin Blanc  -4 Stars

Enviable second label from old Swartland vines, 2012 combines rich, lees/mineral structure with vibrant tropical fruit. Elegant & complex, yet exuberantly youthful.

2011  Mullineux Family Wines Kloof Street Rouge – 4 Stars

Unassuming 2nd-tier range still gets the full house-style treatment. 2011 is mostly shiraz, but still echoes Côtes du Rhône-style juiciness with peppery spices. 2010 sold out untasted.
